Siding Replacement Part 1: The Process of Replacement

Everybody wants a beautiful home. There’s nothing quite like working hard to slowly build the house of your dreams, and one of the many parts that homeowners tend to work on the most is their siding. It’s their home’s “skin”, and taking care of it is essential to the overall aesthetic.

In the first part of our special two-part blog series, Twin Cities Professional shows you what to expect from your siding repair or replacement procedure.

Making a Choice

Most contractors will present an extensive list of siding options from which to choose. Don’t hesitate to ask questions when discussing the many products available to you. They may even make valuable suggestions that will fit your home’s needs. For one thing, James Hardie® products come highly recommended by experts because they are easy to install and maintain.

During the Procedure

The moment the contractors arrive, they will start the work by removing the old siding. This may make the interior walls unstable, which is why we recommend removing any hanging objects on the wall opposite where they’re working. You can take this opportunity to spot problem areas in your walls as well. Areas that have been rotten or water-damaged will be visible once the siding is removed.

Post-Work

When installation is finished, painters will typically add the finishing touches. If you chose to remodel your whole home, the contractors will divide the work and finish it one side at a time. All in all, the work shouldn’t take too much time. Afterward, they’ll pack up all excess materials and equipment, and leave your home the way they found it. That is, except for the newly installed siding.
