Twin Cities Siding and Roofing is proud to be one of the siding contractors who carry the James Hardie® Preferred Remodeler designation, not because of the prestige it brings, but because it lets us offer the siding that your home truly deserves.
We know you have some questions about James Hardie siding, so we thought we’d answer some of them below.
What Is James Hardie® Siding Made Of?
James Hardie products, including the popular HardiePlank® siding, is made of fiber cement: a combination of sand, Portland cement and cellulose fibers. Unlike most objects made from concrete, fiber cement does not absorb water, which makes it ideal for environments with constant rain or snow. Fiber cement is several times thicker than vinyl, which makes it more durable and allows for a more realistic wood texture.
How Long Does James Hardie Siding Last?
With proper care and maintenance, James Hardie siding products can last up to 50 years – much longer than the typical 30-year lifespan of leading vinyl siding products.
What Is the HardieZone® System?
With the variety of climates across the United States alone, it’s important to choose siding suited for the local climate. This is why James Hardie has the HardieZone® system, which identifies the local climate conditions and lets certified siding contractors supply the appropriate siding. The HardieZone System is based on eight climatic variables: temperature range, ultraviolet exposure, humidity, rain, snow, hurricanes, hail and topographical factors.
The initial 10-zone designations were refined down to two: HZ5™, designed for cold northern climates and its effects, including extremes such as below-freezing temperatures; and HZ10™, designed to withstand the conditions associated with warm climates, such as hurricane-force winds and high humidity. The HardieZone System ensures you get the exact siding that your home needs without any guesswork involved.
Why Should I Choose James Hardie Siding Over Other Siding Options?
The short answer is: it’s better in every way. But, let us elaborate: in addition to the aforementioned long lifespan, durability and resistance to extreme weather conditions, it also requires almost no maintenance. The colors are factory-applied and require no repainting, eliminating the need to scrape and repaint your siding every year. Cleaning it just as easy; all you need is clean water with a soft brush if you need to reach those tight corners.
