Siding installation requires technical and precise installation methods, so it needs to proceed as smooth as possible. This makes pre-installation preparations as important as the installation itself. When you’re planning on getting your siding replaced soon, make your siding replacement an easy experience with these preparatory steps.
-
Find a licensed and insured contractor – Finding the right contractor early on can save you much effort, as you’ll know how much you contractor will do, preparations-wise. Contractors with a contractor’s license (different from a business license) assures you the installation will comply with local regulations and save time on legwork and research. Choose a contractor that has both general liability insurance and workers’ compensation to protect yourself against liabilities arising from accidental property damage and injuries. Also, licensed contractors like ourselves typically do most of the paperwork, including building permits and approvals, saving you further preparatory steps.
-
Have a project journal – Buy a medium-sized hardbound notebook to save your notes, ideas, clippings, and receipts. Having all your siding replacement-related notes in a single, easy to find document makes everything more convenient when you need to refer to it later.
-
General home preparations – Take the time to go around your house and prepare the work area prior to installation day. Trim tree branches that are close to the wall, as these could later repeatedly poke the new siding and cause damage. Remove lawn and patio ornaments, furniture, gardening tools. If your internet cabling or satellite dish is installed along the wall, ask your service providers or your contractor how these can be relocated without disrupting your service. The same goes for storm shutters and frost board, which may or may not need removal depending on the style.
-
Material delivery – Depending on the size of your home, and complexity of the project, we may need a few days lead time to deliver the siding material, and may require space on your lawn or driveway to store them.
-
Noise – As with most home improvement projects, there will be a significant amount of noise as we install the siding. If you have an infant, you may need to make arrangements for their care during installation. You may also want to inform your neighbors as a courtesy.
