HardieSoffit® panels are part of the James Hardie® siding family. These panels help creating a clean and elegant exterior for your home. Installation is fairly simple, yet results in beautiful and functional protection for the underside of your roof. This video shows how these panels are installed.
HardieSoffit® Installation
HardieSoffit comes in a variety of widths depending on the size of the overhang. As a James Hardie Elite Preferred Remodeler, we can take accurate measurements of the overhang and order the appropriate size straight from the factory. The framing members must be spaced a maximum of 24 inches on center. Placement is planned before installation begins, particularly where the vented soffits must go. HardieSoffit is designed to be installed with vent holes positioned outside of the eave for optimal airflow.
Once HardieSoffit panels are cut and ready for installation, each panel is placed into position, and fasteners are driven according to the soffit size. For panels less than 12 inches wide, the fasteners must 1 inch away from the corners and 3/8 inches away from the edge of the soffit. Panels that are wider than 12 inches require fasteners driven 2 inches from the corners and, again, 3/8 inches away from the edge.
The James Hardie siding contractor then touches up the nailheads using a Hardie Touch Up Pen, a specialized paint pen specifically designed for soffit installation. Factory-cut panel edges can be joined in moderate contact. Cut edges should have a 1/8 inch gap and be caulked and covered by a batten strip. Both factory-cut and installer-cut edges can also be joined by a PVC or metal “H” molding.
